Styles we could possibly ordinarily associate with childhood—the plaid vinyl lawn chairs of family barbecues, thick pink, brown, and white stripes of Neapolitan ice product, and the simple dominated markings on notebook paper—become vivid woven tapestries in the hands of artist Susie Taylor. Nostalgic in aesthetic and vivid in colour palette, the Bay Space artist and textile designer interlaces cotton and linen threads to create flat weaves that show up pretty much a few-dimensional in complexity, with the mathematically-inclined motifs and refined shifts in coloration embedded within the pieces them selves.

The fiber compositions attract on the traditions of Bauhaus and Black Mountain Faculty by a boldly playful lens and “include standard designs like blocks and stripes to tackle pattern, symmetry and colour conversation and the notion that ordered devices can however flirt with likelihood, interruption, and improvisation,” the artist claims.
